The aorta is the largest artery in a human body, connected to the left ventricle, which then branches into numerous smaller arteries to carry the oxygenated blood from the heart to everywhere else in the body. As a blood vessel which carries out such a major function, any health issues affecting the smooth functioning of the aorta is a serious cause of concern.
Minimally invasive aortic root and ascending aortic replacementsurgery is a medical procedure where the surgeon will use minimally invasive technique where advanced surgical equipment is inserted into the body through a number of small incisions to perform the surgery. After insertion, the surgeon will remove a section of the aortic root along with the aortic valve, and then replaces the sectionwith a synthetic graft. Sometimes this procedure will also require the surgeon to discard the aortic valve completely and use a mechanical valve instead. If a mechanical valve is not necessary, the surgeon will stitch the original aortic valve into the newly inserted graft.
Aortic Root and Ascending Aortic Replacements are performed as a treatment for aortic aneurysm. An aneurysm is the enlargement of a section of aorta. This enlargement can also cause the aortic valve to stretch thin and cause permanent damage. The surgery is prescribed to prevent the rupturing of the aneurysm along with any damage to the aortic valve.
After the surgery, the patients are put under observation to make sure that no bleedings or infections occur. During the recovery period, the dedicated doctors and nurses of Kauvery Hospital provide exceptional care to the patient for the follow up procedures and routine check-ups. In case of patients who had to have a mechanical aortic valve inserted, it is necessary for them to take blood thinning medication for the rest of their lives so as to ensure the smooth functioning of the aortic valve. Whether it’s during the time spent in the hospital or after the discharge, our team is available to you with 24/7 patient support to meet your expectations.
